International Tree Foundation - Sussex Branch

'Who plants a tree for God to grow, Enlarges Paradise I trow'
- Dr John A Finley

Please contact Lewis Wallis (Branch Chairman) by email landhwallis@fsmail.net with any queries on our events or matters for the committee.

At home in Sussex,
- we offer grant aid for planting trees in Primary School grounds, which enables us to tell the children about the importance of trees and encourage them to care for their environment.
- we actively promote the Family Tree Scheme plantings

- we arrange Spring and Autumn Guided Walks and Newsletters for our members.

- we offer talks on the Value of Trees to interested groups.

Overseas,

- we establish and maintain Tree Nurseries in the Cyangugu Province of Rwanda, where Civil War and Genocide have resulted in considerable land degradation and tree loss.  Trees are vital as a source of fruit to combat malnutrition, fuel wood for domestic cooking and firing brick kilns, construction materials, soil erosion prevention, shelter and medicines.  Eight Tree Nurseries have been established in the last six years and have raised over 500,000 trees for local communities.

In 2006 we  established three more nurseries and raised over 200,000 trees.  See the Africa/Rwanda section of this Website for further details.  It costs £1,000 per year  to establish and maintain  each nursery, so funds are always needed to keep them going - and to develop more.

We seek sponsorship for all these activities, and are able to give illustrated talks to any interested groups - Councils, Rotary & Lions Clubs, Amenity Societies, etc. on the Value of Trees, Tsunami Defences, Rwanda Tree Nurseries  and Global Warming - please contact Desmond Gunner on 01825 733211 for further details.
