ITF can provide expertise and experience in many areas. The following profiles reflect the range of expertise we have.
Lewis E.L.Wallis
Lewis has a BSc Agriculture from Wye College, London University, a Diploma in Tropical Agriculture (DTA) Trinidad, UWI and is a Member of Tropical Agriculture Association (TAA). After 33 Years in tropical agriculture development in Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific countries, Lewis has extensive knowledge and an enviable network of contacts. Since retirement he claims to have focussed on Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, but that hasn't stopped him from answering calls from Haiti and India. His background makes him an ideal person to Chair the committee which considers our overseas grants.
Kenton Rogers HNDFor, MArborA., FRGS
Kenton qualified originally at Newton Rigg Forestry College in 1995, and has spent time in British Columbia and working in Tanzania. A member of the Arboriculture Association, a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and a Chartered Environmentalist, he is currently studying for a Professional Diploma in Arboriculture. Now employed as a Senior Consultant Arborist , his ITF focus lies in the Sahara region where he has seen first-hand the urgent need for trees.
Dominic Wodehouse
Dominic ran his own firm as a qualified tree surgeon, using this as a stepping stone into tree-based conservation. Now in his final year of a part time masters at Imperial College, London. His main interest and expertise lies in mangrove rehabilitation. He is based in Krabi, Thailand where he originally volunteered with Wetlands International as their mangrove officer. His work focuses on sustainable livelihoods, community led solutions and a clear understanding of hydrology to allow regeneration of mangroves.
Matthew Hancox BSc (hons)
Having recently completed a degree in Animal Conservation Science at the University of Cumbria, Matthew has joined the ITF project in the Gambia for a six month placement. He has already spent time in the area as part of a research team. He aims to work with the local community forest to develop a forest management strategy. This will not only help local wildlife but also local communities, and will lay a foundation for future eco-tourism to the area.
Richard Ince BSc - Forestry/Land Management; MSc - Natural Resource Planning.
After spending time as a forestry volunteer working on a Pacific Island for two years, Richard worked over 25 years as a woodland manager for owners in New England, spent time working on forestry projects in the Caribbean, Central America and Chile; and eventually settled back in the UK to work with woodland owners in the West Country. He now takes responsibility for ITF projects in East Africa and Eastern Europe. Farm and community forestry and agroforestry practices are particular areas of Rich's interest and expertise. He has worked on development projects for the Pan American Development Foundation, the Organization of American States, and several universities; and he's a member of the International Society of Tropical Foresters.
Alice Malaiperuman BSc - Environmental Biology
Alice is the Overseas Programme Coordinator for ITF. After gaining a degree at Nottingham University, Alice spent time working as a coordinator and team leader for an environmental work camp, and worked with schools and students on environmental awareness. She has also worked in India as coordinator for Field Services Intercultural Learning programme, a country of particular personal interest for Alice, and with Lewis she currently takes responsibility for projects there. As ITF's Programme Coordinator, Alice processes overseas applications for grants and liaises with our partner organizations in the field. Alice will also be called upon to monitor overseas projects in the future.
John Tuer Cert. Ed. , B.Ed(Hons), Cert Arb., F.D.Sc (Arb)., B.Sc(Hons) Arb.
John worked as a secondary school teacher and deputy head for nearly forty years before retiring and throwing himself into his passion - trees. Whilst teaching, he trained and qualified as a tree surgeon undertaking work during weekends and holidays. Many half term weeks saw him up trees or on chainsaw courses. Following his retirement from teaching, he spent a year working for an Arboricultural Consultancy on a large project surveying the city trees of Birmingham whilst undertaking further tree surgery work. He has since spent a number of years taking further arboricultural qualifications and now wishes to combine his teaching and arboricultural skills and experience. John has many bookings for a number of talks that he gives and continues to organise the tree planting for the Shropshire & Montgomery Branch in which he is an active member. His main specialist interest is planting and maintaining trees in Britain with a focus on trees in the urban environment.
